Since 1912 the Osborn family have tended vineyards in McLaren Vale, South Australia. Today fourth generation family member, Chester, makes distinctive wines using traditional methods both in the vineyard and the winery. After leaving school aged 16 to work in the family winery, d'Arry (d’Arenberg) Osborne has received many accolades for a lifetime of contributions to the Australian wine industry. In 1984 his son Chester Osborne takes over the reigns as Chief Winemaker, Chester has focused his efforts on producing high quality and distinctive wines since he joined the family business. Family is very important to the Osbornes, so much so that in 2009, the Australian wine landscape was changed forever when 12 of Australia’s oldest family owned, multi-generational wine businesses came together to form Australia’s First Families of Wine. A unique collaboration of like-minded families, the intention was to change the narrative about the history, provenance and quality of Australian premium wine, telling the stories behind these families that form the golden thread that connects them.
